Cinnamon Cultivation In 5 Districts Of Himachal Pradesh Will Yield Production By 2025


Himachali Cinnamon: The use of spices and medicines increased a lot during the Corona period. Meanwhile, the demand for cinnamon also increased a lot. It is the most popular spice in Indian kitchen, which is obtained from the bark of the tree. Till now cinnamon was being cultivated only in South Indian states, but now with the help of scientists, farmers of Himachal Pradesh are also growing cinnamon. Cinnamon is being cultivated in 5 districts of the state- Hamirpur, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra. Here, as a trial, cinnamon plants were planted in the year 2022, which are now growing rapidly. Scientists estimate that by 2025, cinnamon will be ready on the bark of the tree and will reach the market for sale.

Planted more than 10,000 saplings
According to media reports, 50-50 cinnamon plants were planted in Himachal Pradesh as a trial, but when the demand for cinnamon suddenly increased in 2022, farmers also started taking interest in its cultivation. Then did the farmers of Hamirpur, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra get about 10,000 saplings planted in their fields. Recently, scientists of the Himalayan Bioresource Technology Institute (CSIR), Palampur have visited the farmers’ fields and inspected the cinnamon plants and the results are quite satisfactory.

Scientists of the Himalayan Bioresource Technology Institute (CSIR), Palampur, observed that the growth of plants is happening very fast. The plants are absolutely healthy, from which there is a possibility of getting abundant production of cinnamon by 2025. Regarding this project, CSIR scientist Dr. Ramesh Chauhan told that once the cinnamon plants are planted, production starts within 4 years. According to this, by the year 2025, the yield of cinnamon will be available, because by this time the plants are growing rapidly.

Cinnamon is full of medicinal properties
Cinnamon is said to be the most popular spice of Indian kitchen, which is used from new-old recipes to tea and health drinks and also as medicine. There is also an interesting fact that the bark of the tree is used as cinnamon, while the leaves are used as bay leaves. Both of these have the ability to control cholesterol. By consuming them, the risk of dangerous diseases like stomach problems, cold and flu, bone problems, arthritis, obesity, diabetes can be removed. The maximum production of cinnamon-bay leaf is available from Kerala and Tamil Nadu in South India.
